Don’t Turn Off Your Buyers With These 3 Staging Trends

There are certain staging looks that can make or break a sale. The wrong pairing of design materials or decor can leave a sour taste in a potential buyer’s mouth and kill a sale. A simple and subtle decor can set the allure of warm and inviting. But adding too many elements, on the other hand, can ward people off. 

1) Don’t Mix Too Many Metals

Recently, mixed metals became the mainstream. An example is the pairing of brushed nickel with matte black, which offers a nice texture and dimension to any room. However, if you get greedy and add too many metals, you can easily go overboard. 

“Brass nickel is out,” according to Janice Rosenberg, a real estate pro in Raleigh, N.C. “Getting rid of that helps update a home. Brushed nickel is fine, and oil rubbed bronze is typically fine.”

“Pick one that will be the dominant finish, then one or two additionally complementary colors of a cohesive look,” HomeLight notes.

2) A Wall is An Accent

What better way to make your room pop than by painting your walls for accents of lush color? The 2020 trend is just that - highly bold and colorful. When it comes to staging, however, neutral color palettes will never grow old. You can avoid a pompous color pop, by limiting it to simply one wall. Then keep the other colors neutral and let the room pop through artwork, accessories, furnishings and other items. Walls don’t have to be the only thing that pop in a room. 

“Wallpaper is another popular trend at the moment but it can add visual clutter,” Rosenberg says.

3) Chintzy Decorations

Personalities are growing stronger and stronger in the world of interior decorating, but some experts will try to defer to neutral looks in order to appeal to the masses. Don’t let that stop you from showing off your personality, however. 

“Don’t just pick up generic, plastic or cheap decor,” Homes.com notes on its blog. “Have a fresh vase of flowers visible upon entering the home; even go the extra mile to make sure everything is sparkling clean and nicely placed.”
