Decorating With Twill

Real Estate For Sale

Autumn is here and we can smell the holiday eggnog easing its way into our season. If you are ready to kick off the holiday cheer within your interior decorating, there’s no shame in it. The earlier you start, the longer it will last. One way to liven up your space with Christmas glee is with a little know product you probably haven’t thought of: Twill.

“Twill weaves are trending because they are simple and timeless patterns that complement all kinds of design styles, making the simplicity of the pattern a very versatile fabric to work with,” explains Wendy Gonzalez, interior designer and founder of Modern Ornament in New Jersey.

Twill fabrics tend to last, Gonzalez points out; cotton twill is especially popular for its durability.

Here are a few helpful tips on how to incorporate twill in your home in an artful way.

Twill wallpaper

Sometimes a home is simply in need of some texture. By adding twill wallpaper, you will add the much needed depth that is missing and you can try it as an accent wall behind your bed. For a more sophisticated look, try it on your dining room.

Twill bedding

Are you getting tired of your heart flannel winter sheets? Twill bedding is a refreshing upgrade that comes with a dynamic ultrasoft weave. The weight is just right and breathable, unlike something like a gravity blanket which makes it hard to keep a natural breathing pattern going.

Herringbone twill accents

Gonzalez recommends looking for accessories in a herringbone twill pattern for a nice twist on the traditional weave.

Twill curtains

Looking for a drape upgrade? Twill is rapidly becoming a top choice for a soft fabric curtain. It's easy to clean and won't wrinkle easily, Gonzalez explains. Seek out a material that’s right for you. For example, you may want a soft and easy cotton or a more heavy twill velvet.

Twill sofa covers

"Our favorite twill designs tend to be on sofa covers," Ewart says. "When compared to many fabric and suede coverings, twill coverings tend to be the perfect choice for those with a young family or pets, where there is a lot of traffic and play around the house."
